SIMPROCESS allows you to store your simulation results in a database. This database is designed to hold SIMPROCESS output. The Microsoft Access database installed for Windows comes with predefined queries, graphs, and reports. The queries, graphs, and reports can be copied or modified to customize your analysis. The tables may not be modified other than records may be deleted from the System, Design, and Scenario tables using the Manage Results form. For non-Windows users or others wishing to use an SQL database other than Access, refer to Chapter 13 of the SIMPROCESS User's Manual for more detailed information.
System is the highest level, which corresponds to the model. Thus, the system name is the same as the model name. Design and scenario are inputs determined by you. A Design consists of the following:
1. Number of entities and entity names.
2. Number of resources, resource names, and resource cost.
3. Number and names of activities and process alternatives.
4. Start and End date, Start and End time, and number of replications.
5. Output time unit.
If any of the above change, then the Design has changed and you will be prompted for a new Design. Otherwise, only a new Scenario is required. If the System (model name) and Design does not change between committing results to the database, then you will be prompted for a new Scenario name. If the requested Design cannot be verified, then you will be prompted for a new Design name.
The Access database must be linked to SIMPROCESS using ODBC. See the Getting Started Manual for detailed instructions on connecting the database to SIMPROCESS. See Chapter 13 of the SIMPROCESS User's Manual for information on using another SQL database.
